This year, things get even more exciting in the VR GOLF space with the first-ever VR FedExCup Playoffs.
Starting on July 20, golfers can join in three weekly tournaments to try and get enough points to be one of the top 500. These top golfers will then get to play in the VR FedExCup Playoffs on GOLF+. This lets golfers test their skills alongside the best PGA TOUR players as the 2022-23 season ends.
Golfers in the VR Playoffs will play on the same courses and face the same conditions as the PGA TOUR players in the last three events of the season. And there are prizes to win! These prizes include a special VIP experience at a PGA TOUR event in 2024, a PGA TOUR prize, and 36 virtual medals for different accomplishments.
How does it work ?
The game will be like the real PGA TOUR Playoffs. It begins with 70 players at the FedEx St. Jude Championship (Aug. 7-13). Then, it goes down to 50 players a week later at the BMW Championship (Aug. 14-20). Finally, the top 30 players compete for the FedExCup at the TOUR Championship (Aug. 21-27) at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.
To get into the VR Playoffs, you need to compete in three rounds of tournaments. Week 1 is at TPC Scottsdale (July 20-26), Week 2 at Pebble Beach Golf Links (July 27-Aug. 2), and Week 3 at TPC Sawgrass (Aug. 3-9). To enter, pick "Amateur" or "Pro" difficulty in the GOLF+ menu under "Tournaments." You can't change this once you start.
The top 500 players after these three events will move on to the VR FedExCup Playoffs, which start at the same time as the real ones. After the St. Jude Championship, half of them will continue to the BMW Championship. Then, the last 100 will compete in the TOUR Championship.
In the VR FedExCup Playoffs, golfers play on the same courses as the TOUR players: TPC Southwind (Aug. 10-16), Olympia Fields Country Club (Aug. 17-23), and East Lake Golf Club (Aug. 24-27). Everything, like where you tee off and how the wind blows, is just like the real deal.
A new VR TOUR Champion.
This new experience lets you enjoy the FedExCup Playoffs from home, whether you're in your backyard, your livingroom, or anywhere you like to play VR golf. Ryan Engle, the CEO of GOLF+, thinks this is a great way for new stars to shine and be the first VR TOUR Champion. It's an exciting start for the next generation of amazing players on their platform.
