VR GOLF OPEN in the Metaverse

Technology Meets Golf at Royal Liverpool Golf Club to help golf grow around the world.

The R&A and Golf 5 are working together for something exciting. They're bringing golf to a special place called the Metaverse. This new way to experience golf will start with the VR Open at Royal Liverpool on July 15, 2023.

Neil Armit, from The R&A, said they made the VR Open so fans can enjoy the Championship in a whole new way using technology. This is a big deal because they want to get more people interested in golf. They're using cool technology to give unique experiences that haven't been seen in golf before. They're excited to see how fans react to this first VR Open in the summer.

Antonio Marin, who's in charge of Golf 5, is happy to work with The R&A to make a great golf experience in virtual reality. They want to help golf grow around the world.

How does it work ?

Just like The Open, there are rounds to see who's the best. They're called the 'VR Open Qualifiers'. These rounds will happen on two virtual courses by Golf 5, starting from July 1.

These Qualifiers have four groups based on how good a player is. The top 20 players from each group will be able to compete in the VR Open finals at Hoylake without paying. These finals will be from July 15 to August 19 so players have enough time to play each round. If you're not in the top group, you can still join the VR Open as a Red Badge Player.

The winner of the VR Open in 2023 will get a trophy and tickets to The 152nd Open in 2024. Other winners will get special VR Open things. Everyone who takes part will also get a special card in the app. This card lets them play on the Championship links course and enjoy events for free.
