Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy Unveil TGL League Format and Rules for Debut 2024 Season

Dynamic 3on3 Battles with a Point system

Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's TGL Golf League revealed the details for its upcoming 2024 season, set to kick off on January 9. The league, featuring virtual golf competitions, introduces a unique format that combines alternate shot and head-to-head matchups, all governed by a points-based ranking system.

TGL Match Format and Scoring:

  • 15 holes per match

  • Three out of four golfers from each team participate

  • Nine holes of Triples: Alternate shot (three-on-three)

  • Six holes of Singles: Head-to-head (one-on-one for two holes each)

  • 1 point per hole won | 0 points for a tied hole

  • Overtime: Closest-to-the-pin until one team hits two shots closer than the other

A team earns 2 points for a victory in either regulation or overtime. An overtime loss grants a team 1 point, while a regulation defeat results in no points for the squad.

TGL Playoffs: The Showdown

TGL Playoffs:

  • Four out of six teams qualify

  • Single-elimination semifinal matches

  • The final two teams compete in a best-of-three Championship Series

All TGL matches take place at the newly-constructed SoFi Center on the campus of Palm Beach State College in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The arena's course spans roughly the size of a football field, allowing players to take full shots from real grass tee boxes, fairway, rough, and sand into a simulator screen 20 times larger than the standard size.

For shots within 50 yards, competitors shift from the simulator to the "Green Zone," a vast complex extending over four basketball courts. This area features a sizable, adaptable putting surface that can change its slope based on the specific hole being played.
